Rated to 100MHz, this 0.3m CAT5e lead carries Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres. For everyday home and office networking that is all the speed you need.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. A flexible PVC sheath keeps it easy to handle and route. Using 26 AWG copper makes it a little thinner and easier to dress neatly than heavier-gauge leads. Moulded boots support the cable where it meets the plug, reducing strain on the conductors.
Short lengths like this keep a cabinet neat: patch panel to switch, or switch to switch, with no slack to tie up. Choosing violet leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
