Extending video over network cable
HDMI cables become unreliable beyond about 15 metres, so extenders use network cable instead. A transmitter at the source and a receiver at the display are linked by Cat5e or Cat6 (or across your LAN for network models), reaching 30 to 120 metres depending on the model and resolution.
Single-cable models are the simplest to install; IR pass-through lets you keep using the source remote control from the screen end. KVM extenders do the same for a keyboard, mouse and monitor, so a computer can be controlled from another room. Connect the units directly with a solid copper cable, not through a network switch, unless the extender is designed for LAN use.
