A 10m CAT6 Ethernet patch lead rated to 250MHz, good for Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses an overall foil wrap around the four pairs (F/UTP) to keep outside electrical noise out. Screened leads work best when the switch ports and patch panel are screened as well. Its LSZH sheath (low smoke zero halogen) limits smoke and toxic fumes if there is a fire, and is often a requirement in offices, schools and hospitals. 26 AWG conductors keep the lead slimmer and more flexible than a 24 AWG cable. Snagless boots shield the RJ45 clip, so it will not catch when the lead is pulled through a bundle or snap off in use.
It covers the distance to an upstairs room, a summer house or a ceiling-mounted access point. Choosing grey leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
