A 1m CAT6 Ethernet patch lead rated to 250MHz, good for Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. It is the everyday choice for offices, homes and small comms rooms.
The cable uses an overall foil wrap around the four pairs (F/UTP) to keep outside electrical noise out. For the screen to do its job, pair it with shielded panels, keystones and switch ports. The sheath is LSZH, meaning it produces little smoke and no halogen gases in a fire; many commercial and public buildings ask for it. 26 AWG conductors keep the lead slimmer and more flexible than a 24 AWG cable. The RJ45 latch is protected by snagless boots, which stop it hooking on other cables or breaking.
Handy at a desk or TV cabinet, and long enough to patch across a rack or to the next cabinet along. Choosing red leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
