This 3m CAT6 patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 250MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses an overall foil wrap around the four pairs (F/UTP) to keep outside electrical noise out. For the screen to do its job, pair it with shielded panels, keystones and switch ports. Its LSZH sheath (low smoke zero halogen) limits smoke and toxic fumes if there is a fire, and is often a requirement in offices, schools and hospitals. 26 AWG conductors keep the lead slimmer and more flexible than a 24 AWG cable. The RJ45 latch is protected by snagless boots, which stop it hooking on other cables or breaking.
Use it where the equipment is a few metres apart, such as a router in the hall and a computer in the next room. Choosing green leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
