This 5m CAT6 patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 250MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses an overall foil wrap around the four pairs (F/UTP) to keep outside electrical noise out. Screened leads work best when the switch ports and patch panel are screened as well. An LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) jacket is used, which is what most building specifications now call for indoors. Using 26 AWG copper makes it a little thinner and easier to dress neatly than heavier-gauge leads. Snagless boots shield the RJ45 clip, so it will not catch when the lead is pulled through a bundle or snap off in use.
Use it where the equipment is a few metres apart, such as a router in the hall and a computer in the next room. Blue is one of several colours in the range, so you can colour-code by department, VLAN or device type.
