A 1m CAT5e Ethernet patch lead rated to 100MHz, good for Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres. For everyday home and office networking that is all the speed you need.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. Its LSZH sheath (low smoke zero halogen) limits smoke and toxic fumes if there is a fire, and is often a requirement in offices, schools and hospitals. 26 AWG conductors keep the lead slimmer and more flexible than a 24 AWG cable. The RJ45 latch is protected by snagless boots, which stop it hooking on other cables or breaking.
A good length for the desk: wall socket to PC, router to games console, or a short hop between neighbouring racks. Blue is one of several colours in the range, so you can colour-code by department, VLAN or device type.
