This 2.5m CAT5e patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 100MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres. For everyday home and office networking that is all the speed you need.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. An LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) jacket is used, which is what most building specifications now call for indoors. Using 26 AWG copper makes it a little thinner and easier to dress neatly than heavier-gauge leads. The RJ45 latch is protected by snagless boots, which stop it hooking on other cables or breaking.
Use it where the equipment is a few metres apart, such as a router in the hall and a computer in the next room. In a crowded patch panel, a blue lead stands out at a glance.
