This 1m CAT6 patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 250MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. An LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) jacket is used, which is what most building specifications now call for indoors. Thin 30 AWG conductors give a slim cable that bends easily and packs densely into busy switches. Slim leads are designed for patching, so keep them to the shorter lengths used inside cabinets and at desks. The RJ45 latch is protected by snagless boots, which stop it hooking on other cables or breaking.
Handy at a desk or TV cabinet, and long enough to patch across a rack or to the next cabinet along. Choosing orange leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
