This 5m CAT6 patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 250MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses an overall foil wrap around the four pairs (F/UTP) to keep outside electrical noise out. For the screen to do its job, pair it with shielded panels, keystones and switch ports. Its LSZH sheath (low smoke zero halogen) limits smoke and toxic fumes if there is a fire, and is often a requirement in offices, schools and hospitals. Using 26 AWG copper makes it a little thinner and easier to dress neatly than heavier-gauge leads. Snagless boots shield the RJ45 clip, so it will not catch when the lead is pulled through a bundle or snap off in use.
This length crosses a room or an office bay, for example from a router on a shelf to a desk on the far wall. Red is one of several colours in the range, so you can colour-code by department, VLAN or device type.
