Making up BNC leads
Crimp BNC connectors must match the coax they go on: RG58 is 50 ohm cable used for test and older network kit, while RG59, mini RG59, RG6/CT100, CT125 and RG11 are 75 ohm cables used for CCTV and video. Machined (turned) connectors give a tighter, longer-lasting fit; die cast ones keep the cost down on big jobs.
Fit the strain relief boot on the cable before the connector, strip the cable to the dimensions for the connector, crimp the centre pin, then the outer sleeve, using a crimp tool with the correct die. Test each finished lead before installing it. For ready-made leads see our BNC cables.
