Rated to 250MHz, this 0.5m CAT6 lead carries Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. The sheath is LSZH, meaning it produces little smoke and no halogen gases in a fire; many commercial and public buildings ask for it. Thin 32 AWG conductors give a slim cable of roughly 2.8mm that bends easily and packs densely into busy switches. Slim leads are designed for patching, so keep them to the shorter lengths used inside cabinets and at desks.
Short lengths like this keep a cabinet neat: patch panel to switch, or switch to switch, with no slack to tie up. In a crowded patch panel, a blue lead stands out at a glance.
