Rated to 100MHz, this 0.5m CAT5e lead carries Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres. That is plenty for broadband routers, PCs, printers, set-top boxes and most office equipment.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. An LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) jacket is used, which is what most building specifications now call for indoors. Using 26 AWG copper makes it a little thinner and easier to dress neatly than heavier-gauge leads. Snagless boots shield the RJ45 clip, so it will not catch when the lead is pulled through a bundle or snap off in use.
It is sized for in-rack patching between a panel and the switch directly above or below it. In a crowded patch panel, a orange lead stands out at a glance.
