Rated to 250MHz, this 2m CAT6 lead carries Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. It is the everyday choice for offices, homes and small comms rooms.
The cable uses an overall foil wrap around the four pairs (F/UTP) to keep outside electrical noise out. Screened leads work best when the switch ports and patch panel are screened as well. An LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) jacket is used, which is what most building specifications now call for indoors. 26 AWG conductors keep the lead slimmer and more flexible than a 24 AWG cable. The RJ45 latch is protected by snagless boots, which stop it hooking on other cables or breaking.
A good length for the desk: wall socket to PC, router to games console, or a short hop between neighbouring racks. Yellow is one of several colours in the range, so you can colour-code by department, VLAN or device type.
