This 2m CAT6 patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 250MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres, with 10GBASE-T possible on shorter links of around 55 metres. That headroom makes it a safe default for new office and home networks.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. The sheath is LSZH, meaning it produces little smoke and no halogen gases in a fire; many commercial and public buildings ask for it. At 32 AWG the cable is much thinner than a standard lead, about 2.8mm across, freeing up space and airflow in crowded cabinets. Slim leads are designed for patching, so keep them to the shorter lengths used inside cabinets and at desks.
A good length for the desk: wall socket to PC, router to games console, or a short hop between neighbouring racks. Choosing grey leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
