About OM5 fibre
OM5 is wideband multimode fibre. It performs like OM4 at 850nm and is also specified across a wider range of wavelengths, so short-wave multiplexing (SWDM) optics can send several signals down one pair. That lets 40G and 100G links run over fewer fibres.
OM5 uses the same 50/125um core as OM3 and OM4 and the same connectors, so it can be mixed with them; the link then performs to the lowest grade. Lime green is the standard OM5 jacket colour. More help in our fibre optic cable buying guide.
