This 2m CAT5e patch lead from Nimbus is rated to 100MHz and handles Gigabit Ethernet at up to 100 metres. For everyday home and office networking that is all the speed you need.
The cable uses unscreened twisted pairs (U/UTP), which is all most homes and offices need. The PVC jacket is soft and flexible, easy to route around furniture and equipment. Using 26 AWG copper makes it a little thinner and easier to dress neatly than heavier-gauge leads. One end has a right-angled RJ45 plug, which helps where there is little space behind a TV, desk or wall-mounted device.
A good length for the desk: wall socket to PC, router to games console, or a short hop between neighbouring racks. Choosing black leads for one job (cameras, phones or uplinks, say) makes faults quicker to trace later.
